Stéphanie NOUNAGNON to start a thesis at 2IE

Within BioStar, Stéphanie is working on electric power supply of a shea butter press based on a solar photovoltaic system. Her research work is conducted at the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Laboratory of the 2iE Institute with collaborations with the University of Hohenheim. This thesis aims to be as inclusive as possible by considering economic viability, and environmental issues while defining the technical parameters.

BioStar seminar: a virtual workshop week, finally

A BioStar project seminar was held by videoconference from January 31 to February 4. Initially scheduled in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), it could not be locally held, for reasons unrelated with the project.

PhD students on the BioStar project: Portrait of Joevin BONZI

The University of Hohenheim is a partner in the BioStar project and hosts Joevin as a PhD student until 2024 in the framework of Result 2. He is thus involved in activities related to the development and implementation of a technology for the production of groundnut oil from a solar-powered press in Senegal.

Annual Meeting of the BioStar project in Dakar

From 25 to 29 October, the ISRA's Hann Research Centre hosted in Dakar the annual meeting of the BioStar project Dakar. The whole week focused on workshops, methodological exchanges, feedback and scheduling the activities.

Official launch of BioStar project activities in Senegal

On Tuesday October 26th 2021, more than sixty people attended the official launching ceremony of the BioStar project activities in Senegal. This event was held at the Institut Sénégalais de Recherches Agricoles (ISRA, Dakar) and was presided by Mr. Younoussa Mballo, Technical Advisor No. 1 to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment, in the presence of the Director General of the Institut Sénégalais de Recherches Agricoles (ISRA), Dr. Momar Talla Seck, the Regional Director of CIRAD for the Sahel (Sylvie Lewicki), the Representative of the European Union in Senegal (Lénaïc Georgelin), and the Rector of UGB (Ousmane Thiaré, by videoconference from Saint-Louis).

On the periphery of the annual seminar held in Dakar (25 - 29 October 2021), a visit was organized to two peanut processing SMEs. They are based in the areas around Thiès and Tivaouane.

BioStar SME audits get started in Senegal

An audit mission of SMEs in the mango sector was carried out from 4 to 13 August in Ziguinchor. A first mango processing unit was audited by Joseph Bassama, Ibrahima Mané and François Diouf from 4 to 8 August. Djicknoum DIOUF got to join them to audit a second SME in the mango sector.

The aim of our colleagues from Qualisud (CIRAD) was to train Burkina Faso and Senegalese teams in the implementation of the SME audit protocol and in the instrumentation to be set on processing equipments in the pilot SMEs of the BioStar project.
